2013 Carignane
Casa Verde Vineyard

Carignane is a red grape that originated in Carinena, Northern Spain before making its way up to Southern France and the rest of the world. Our 2013 old vine Carignane comes from Casa Verde Vineyard, a family own, certified organic and dry-farmed vineyard located in the heart of Redwood Valley at the north-end of Inland Mendocino County. The warm days and cool nights of Inland Mendocino County are ideal for growing Carignane.

Harvest notes

The 2013 harvest season is going to be remembered as one of the best in recent years. The weather conditions during spring were good and frost did not pose a threat, while the summer had plenty of sunshine but never spiked out of hand and the rains did not arrive until the later part of the season. In summary, it was a winemaker’s dream that provided grapes that were fully ripe, with great balance of flavors and aromas and amazing personality.

Winemaker’s notes

Dark fruit such as fig, plums and blackberries dominate the nose with an undertone of mushroom which contributes to an earthy note. The mouth exhibits soft tannins with nice mid-palate, which is complemented well by the high acid level ending in a balanced and elegant finish.
